Thanks to Todd Wilson for his time as caretaker at Dorje Ling. We have very much appreciated all the work you have done and look forward to meeting you again very soon!

We welcome Jack and Evelin to the position and hope that you enjoy your time at the Centre!

Dorje Ling now has a new entrance road. This winding road into the centre now travels past the new dam, created in the lower paddock to take advantage of the year-round springs which run there. The road is perfectly cambered. When I arrived at Dorje Ling after its construction, Ross, who constructed it for us, took me on a walk to inspect it, showing me the delicious blues and purples of the gravel, the zen rock marking a corner so that no one went off the road there, and the culverts and drains which take the water away from the road and towards the new dam. It’s a masterpiece.

The kidney-shaped dam, made possible because of a very generous donation from one of our members, has its very own island with seat and a bridge across. There is such a water flow in that spot that it was full a week after its creation. The area looks wonderful and invites people to wander and sit there, whereas previously it was a thistle paddock where no one went. Some further work to fence and landscape it will make it safe and further enhance it as a delightful spot to sit and take in the surrounding beauty. Pictures in our Autumn 2011 Newsletter.

We took the plunge and demolished the old shed at the top of the hill near the solar panels. It has been past its use-by date for quite some time. Pictures are here. Also, the new solar battery shed has been framed and roofed, and the excavation of the new bathroom for the caretakers cottage has been started. About 12 people were there, including Ross and his excavator.

Through the efforts of many who were inspired by Chani’s motivation to fundraise, we raised $10,860 from our recent raffle, excluding $2,500 to purchase one Antarctic ticket whilst the other was kindly donated. More

The major prize was won by Imelda and Arnold McShane and you can read their report in our Autumn 2011 Newsletter.

During this working bee, we prepared a base for the new yurt, erected the yurt, and prepared four extra accommodation cubicles attached to the farm house. Also we completed many other odd jobs such as painting the Gompa and other maintenance tasks.

A Path To Peace And Happiness
Easter 2010 Retreat
Led by senior students from Tashi Choling Dharma Foundation.

In March 2010 the Committee and interested members spent a weekend working on forward planning for the Dorje Ling Retreat Centre. Thanks to Andreas for facilitating this very fruitful weekend.

Another show weekend working bee was held in late October 2009. We worked on the property and in the garden and had lots of cups of tea! It's wonderful to see the property in such good hands with our current caretakers. Several building projects are still in the planning stage or need finishing off.

Fundraiser at Sirens 23 May 2009
On 23rd May 2009 at 7.30pm, a Tashi Choling fundraiser was held at Sirens, 6 Victoria Street, Hobart. Entertainment and dancing with music provided by ‘Home Band’ and Raskull (Guy's son Rime, dj) ... as well as guest acts.

Catriona and Rob took up the caretaker position at Dojre Ling from May 2009 and will continue until late 2010. Rob has looked after the grounds beautifully, and has forged excellent links with the local Lorinna community.

The committee has purchased a traditionally-crafted Mongolian yurt, with the help of generous donations by sangha members. This will be set up at Dorje Ling as an alternative gompa/people space.

Click here if you would like to see a video of the construction of our new shower block at Dorje Ling in October 2008. These roomy showers use solar power, and have a gas booster for cloudy days.

The Dorje Ling property now has some new walking trails through the property's beautiful bushland. During the beginning of 2009 these had their first run and all retreatants were thrilled with them as an added feature of the property. We can now access a lovely small stream as well as approach the lake from a different direction.

The farm house at Dorje Ling has been renovated to house a new kitchen suitable to cater to all of our hungry retreatants. It had its test run at Tarchin Hearn's retreat in early 2009 and was pronounced by all to be excellent.

During Rinpoche’s 2008 visit he spoke about a fundraising campaign that he and his students in Canada have put into action, “A Dollar a Day”. It is a simple idea, each of us who are able to put aside a dollar a day to contribute to upgrading our facilities at Dorje Ling so that we can enjoy comfortable retreats and teachings for many years to come. A dollar a day is very little for most of us, less than a coffee or sweet treat, much less than a movie and nothing compared to an evening meal at a restaurant. It’s so easy! And the benefits are immeasurable.

Money from this campaign will be going towards the building fund for Dorje Ling. This will assist us to realise plans to upgrade the kitchen, toilet and shower facilities, improve the water and solar systems, as well as making other improvements to cater for retreatants well into the future.

So please join Rinpoche and us in putting aside A Dollar a Day!

25 July 2005. This event was a great success. Everyone enjoyed the wide range of acts, and we were surprised at the diversity of talent among our Sangha members. We raised around $1500 for Dorje Ling.

Art and Curiosities Auction
This fun(d)raiser was held on Tuesday, 6 April 2005 at Weerona, North Hobart. It was opened by Zasep Tulku Rinpoche, and the auctioneer was Ian Laing. It turned out to be a very long evening, with many people turning up, and a lot of interesting and varied works of art and "curiosities" offered for sale. A good amount of money was raised for the Dorje Ling project.

Quote from our teacher, Zasep Tulku Rinpoche:

‘‘There are numerous benefits that mindfulness of breathing meditation can have.

‘‘The ultimate benefit is enlightenment and perfect samadhi. There are also many temporary benefits. You will have proper breathing patterns, better health and you will begin to be more mindful, have more energy and inner peace.’’
